Invisible Bullets: The Navy’s Big Problem in Future Wardata

Dear C&E Association Members,

Below is a link to a breakingdefense.com article outlining the US Navy’s new concept of “distributed lethality”.  To implement this concept the USN has stated that it will ‘depend on electromagnetic manoeuvre warfare’ and ‘ on functioning networks’.  The article describes some of the efforts and concerns that the USN is addressing as it pursues this new concept.  Of note the article seems to indicate that the USN is adopting the concept of ‘mission command’ which is a doctrine that has been imbedded in our military for many years.  It is also of interest that there is an expectation that ultimately all the technology will fail and that operational success will fall back on the initiative and training of local commanders.
