King of the North

King of the NorthDuring his recent visit to JTFN Yellowknife, Lt Gen Guy Thibault had the opportunity to see first hand the outstanding work being performed by Team North which includes many C&E Branch members.

Lt Gen Thibault had the privledge and honour to present CWO Gerry Blais with a CDS Commendation for his actions in response to an emergency situation, all this coinciding with the culmination of a brilliant 35 year career in the CAF. Lt Gen Thibault also had the honour of promoting BGen Greg Loos to MGen, who is now serving as our C&E Branch Leader.

It’s hard to imagine that it’s 44 years since Gen Withers opened Northern Region HQ.
I had the privilege of serving as one the first C&E officers. In addition to the Gen, the initial team had four C&E officers. Majors Dave Blewley, Howard Baxter and John Ellis plus myself as a Lt. Regretably, the General plus Bewley and Ellis have passed on.

In my earlier comment I neglected to mention that other C&E personnel were also at Yellowknife. There was a small comm detachment seconded from the Edmonton Comm Sqn to operate the message centre.
